Forever the backbone of our synagogue, the Ezra Bessaroth Ladies Auxiliary has served our congregation since it's founding.  From their very first Bazaar in
1916 to this very day, our Ladies have devoted their time, energy and love for the benefit of our synagogue and it's growth.
Ezra Bessaroth Ladies  Auxiliary
Many years ago, I produced a play (abridged for our needs) entitled “Fiddler on
the Roof”.  Kathy Barokas was the director and Sydney Steur provided the
musical accompaniment.  It was sponsored by the EB Ladies Auxiliary and the
premise revolved around our activities in the Ladies Auxiliary.  It required
months of rehearsal and a genuine commitment from the participants.  It was an
unforgettable experience.

Fast forward to today.  We may not be the literal “Fiddlers on the Roof” trying
to do our simple tasks while keeping our balance within our homes and families
(not on the roof) but we are the personifications of that ideal.
Within our walls we have the distinct honor of the photographs displaying a unique history of our female (as well as
male) forebear
ers who shouldered the responsibilities of the congregation from our early beginnings to the present
time.  Perhaps not all of them felt up to the task, but to use a biblical phrase they “girded their loins” and persevered
in their roles and succeeded.  One hundred years later, we are still an entity – seeking all the goals that were instilled
in us by our earlier congregants.

Volunteerism is the key to our past and our future.  There is a role for anyone with a will to contribute their talents
and their time.  We here needful of all of you.   Therefore, for those who volunteer I say “Thanks” and keep up the
good work and for those who are hesitant, I say “come” – you will receive much more than you ever give.
